Tears of the cartilage (or Meniscus) in the knee are common injuries, particularly during sporting activities. Typically these are caused by twisting activities at the knee, for example whilst playing Squash or Football, but may occur during normal daily activity Typical symptoms Often get a swollen knee although this may not be noticed until some hours later, perhaps the following day. Pain in the knee- often specifically on one side only Locking of the knee- This is when the torn piece of cartilage 'jams' the knee.
